Boorman was born in Kent, South East England, but spent most of her childhood years in the North West. She also lived in Quebec for a few years, which she says were the "best years of my life". As a child, Boorman was offered an entrance audition at the Royal Ballet School in London. Melanie Jane's CV shows a list of qualifications which includes, amongst other things, being a qualified bus driver.

In 2010, her wedding was featured on Living's Four Weddings, where she came second.

Melanie Jane first came into the public eye in 2003, when she became a finalist in FHM's High Street Honeys competition. Shortly afterward, she relocated to London to pursue a full-time modeling career. Her pictures in The Sun always list her hometown as being Morecambe as this is where she spent most of her childhood growing up.

In 2005, Boorman made a fleeting appearance in the Stephen Woolley film Stoned, an autobiographical movie charting the life and death of original Rolling Stone Brian Jones.

On the 13th April 2008 she ran the London Marathon for a male cancer charity called Orchid
